Project 2 Evaluation
Having seen what the year above us had done is this position, I felt we had to try and live up to the expectations. Over all though, I feel we've done slightly better than the previous year.
I formed a team with Jack and Aaron and I think we worked really well together. We gave feedback to each other and there weren't any disagreements. Everyone did good amounts of work that contributed towards the final product.
In previous projects I spent several weeks working on detailed models. In this project I had to make multiple game ready models instead. They had to be simple with low poly-counts so the game engine could load them in easily. Last year we had touched on sorting out the UV layout for a model. This time round I had to do it for all of the items I made. All of the items have UV's pre-made for them, but these layouts are always unusable and need to be remade. This takes a while and quite often took longer that making the actual model itself.
I'm really happy with our finished result. I feel proud when we play through the level and I can see the assets I made in place, along with Aaron's. Jack did a great job making the level, the lighting is brilliant, the event triggers are good, making item move around the move to scare people and the music I suggested adds great atmosphere to the game.
When it came to presenting our game, it was received well by the lower year. Several people really liked the music and one even recognised it as music from Amnesia. Some people got scared, which was what we wanted to achieve.
When asked about the lighting some like it and some found it too dark. We wanted the game to be dark, but we need to balance it so it is dark, but people can still see.
When asked about the assets people really liked them, if maybe there were a few too many books lying around.
Generally the game received good reviews. We were recommended to add a little more variety in the rooms, because were getting a little lost.
If I did this project again I'd try to create more assets to provide variety to the rooms, even in simple things like different styles of table and chairs or some pictures on the wall. They next stage for me as a modeller would be to make destructible objects what can break when a player touches or drops them.
I'm very happy with the finished product that we made as team and could happily work on something like this again.
